5 Friends Initiative

Promoting Trust, Healing & Unity in our Community

The 5 Friends Initiative is a community engagement model under Peacenic that promotes trust, healing, and unity between law enforcement and the community—particularly in neighborhoods most impacted by violence.

This initiative will be launched at Peacenic and will involve intentional engagement with law enforcement, Peacenic facilitators, and the community. Once initial relationships are established, 20 selected individuals will continue meeting throughout the year to build rapport and strengthen relationships with law enforcement.

What to Expect

Focusing on the Southside, Eastside, Northside, and Westside neighborhoods of Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township – areas statistically facing higher rates of violence, we look to achieve:

Strengthened community-law enforcement relationships.
New commitments to ongoing communication and cooperative solutions.
A model of peace-building and accountability that grows beyond the event.
